The initial visit to this property revealed an outdated concrete patio, an overbearing Cherry tree and minimal backyard space. The side yard had a tremendous slope, draped with failing walls and no real access to the back of the house.
CLIENT VISION
The primary goal was to create a useful new paver patio with some additional features such as a sitting wall, some privacy from neighboring properties and a simple grill surround. The secondary goal was to create some type of steps to connect the patio with the side yard and garage/driveway area.
SOLUTION
This was a fairly straight forward project with good access and few major hurdles, sitting in a quiet neighborhood. The patio size and shape are meant to provide sufficient room for cooking, eating, lounging and entertaining while maintaining a reasonable footprint within the backyard. The sitting wall creates a nice useable structure on the back side of the patio while the grill is positioned outside of the main sitting area. A simple and inexpensive wooden screen made from cedar creates an element of privacy while adding a soft texture to compliment the new hardscape. The significant grade change on the side of the house required a mixture of limestone boulders and man-made heavy steps to form the impressive new pathway leading from driveway to patio. A tasteful splash of landscape lighting and new plantings complete this residential restoration.
